The Story of the Barometz
On the misty far away plains of Tartary (currently known as Asia) There is said to grow a mysterious plant known under many names: The Scythian Lamb (Agnus Scythicus), Planta Tartarica Barometz, Borometz and Baranetz but we, Vurdalak, call it the Barometz.
All of these names mean the same thing.
The legendary Vegetable Lamb.
Barometz' grow from big round seed which, after having been planted, develop into 4 feet tall plant. After a while the plant's stern grows a living lamb connected to the plant by an umbilical, this unlike normal plants which usually grow flowers or fruit.
The Barometz' fruit resembles a normal lamb, it bleats, has whool, looks unintelligent, it practically has all the traits a normal lamb has except for it still being connected to the plant by it's navel. This lamb then eats all the other plants it can reach while still being connected to the ground by a stern.
Finally when it ate all plants both the lamb and plant die of starvation. (Although we have to note that some other sources say that the sheep disconnects from the plant and only the plant dies. Which of these two is the truth we cannot say?)
Most sightings of this phenomenon were made in medieval times and ended up in many learning books and compendiums of that time. Even up to 1700 the vegetable lamb was an interesting subject for everyone studying botanic. However these books didnīt, or do not, agree on what the Barometz actually was.
The plant also some other unique traits which defines it as being different from every other kind of plant or animal. Barometzī meat tastes like fish and itīs blood tastes like honey (Indeed, sounds delicious) which is one of the reasons Barometz are a popular prey for wolfs.
It is also has other traits next to tasting great. It's bones are said to give clairvoyance to everyone who eats them and dried piece of Barometz in your food help you remain fit or recover from a sickness in an almost magical way.
Whether all of this is true, and whether there are still Barometz in Tartary, or of there are flock of Barometz living in other places of the world, we cannot say.
But a weird kind of sheep plant that cannibalises on other plants till it dies of starvation,
Thatīs really cool
